Australia head coach Holger Osieck has included Turkey-based defender Ersan Gulum in his preliminary 50-man squad for the 2011 Asian Cup.
The German manager will need to whittle the group of names down to 23 on December 28.
Gulum's inclusion comes after widespread calls to secure the Besiktas defender's future in Australian colours after a recent flirt with the Turkish national team.
Failing to make his international debut for Guus Hiddink's side, he now seems set to commit to the Socceroos in one of the friendlies leading up to the Qatar tournament.
Whether he makes the final cut remains to be seen, with a number of other prospective bolters included by Osieck.
Among them is 19 year-old striker Brent McGrath of Brondby, Beijing Guoan's Joel Griffiths, Brisbane Roar defender Luke DeVere Melbourne Victory striker Robbie Kruse and Portugal-based youngster Jason Davidson.
They join established stars such as Mark Schwarzer, Harry Kewell, Lucas Neill and Tim Cahill, with Marco Bresciano and Vince Grella notable but unsurprising omissions.
