It was ofcourse the goalkeeper himself, who had conceded the penalty, but speaking shortly after the game, he disputed the circumstances under which he was penalized. He commented, “Ofcourse, all the audience was watching it, and it was not a penalty. Everybody is a witness of it, but since the referee gave a penalty I was not worried and was able to make two saves in a row.”
When asked about how frustrating it must have been for him, to have saved one penalty, and then to have to prepare himself for another, Faqiryar revealed, “I don’t think about all this at that moment, becauseeverything is happening so fast. Penalty is a fifty-fifty chance and today I was lucky and at that moment you think of nothing else but to just save the ball, whatever it costs. I believe in God and at that time, I said if he is with me at this moment, he will help me.”
While the home fans gave the Afghanistan side a hard time during the game, the custodian praised them for the way they supported their side, and hoped to come back and play in that arena in the near future.
He mentioned, “It was amazing and I congratulate all of Nepal and people of Nepal. I think their team did a great job and audience also did a great job. Maybe we shall come back soon again.”
