Komal Thatal scored the decisive goal as India U17 beat the Belarus U18 team 1-0 in their second game of the Granatkin Memorial Cup in Russia. The Blue Colts were coming on the back of an eight-goal loss they suffered at the hands of Russia.
India started the game brightly but were unable to break the deadlock in the first period, which saw few good moves. At the 23rd minute mark, Boris Thangjam skipped past a couple of defenders before laying it off to Komal, who could only hit it straight at the keeper. Ten minutes later, Amarjit Singh Kiyam tested the waters with a first-time shot from Sanjeev Stalin's pass, but couldn't hit it on target.
The U17 World Cup 2017 hosts upped the ante in the search for the opener, with Boris hitting the woodwork shortly after resumption of play.
Komal put them in the lead in the 68th minute as Suresh Singh Wangjam crossed it into the box for him to tap it in.
The Nicolai Adam-coached side face Latvia U18 next in two days' time in their final group stage match.
