The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has revealed its intentions to host the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) U18 Asia Champion’s Trophy 2015 matches for India at the Duler stadium in Mapusa, Goa.
The home-and-away format tourney, considered one of the most age-group competitions on the continent calendar, will be held between August 5th and November 19th.
India have been drafted into Group ‘A’ alongside the ilk of defending champions Chonburi FC from Thailand. The other teams in the group are Frenz United A and Felda United FC, both from Malaysia. Group B includes Frenz United B of Malaysia, Phnom Penh Crown FC of Cambodia and this time’s tournament favourites Kashima Antlers from Japan besides Vietnam's PVF.
India will play three homes games throughout the months of Spetember and October, 2015. September 2nd and 23rd September are dates listed in the ninth month of the year, whilst October will see a game on the 14th.
"The AIFF wants to have the tournament in Goa. Duler has been identified as the tentative venue but the coaches have asked us to explore the possibility of having the matches either at Nehru Stadium (Fatorda) or Tilak Maidan (Vasco)," revealed a senior source, in light of the matters, to the Times of India.
A sticky point in matters relating to the changing of the venue is that both the aforementioned stadiums have been reserved by the Indian Super League (ISL) franchise FC Goa for their league matches and practice.
However, with FC Goa to hold practice in Dubai for a period of 18 days beginning September 2nd and ending 20th September 2015, sources close to the developments believed a reasonable outcome favoring all parties involved could be expected.
