India down Shanghai East Asia 2-0

Wim Koevermans’ side were victorious once again in China as they defeated the Super League side and more importantly, kept a clean sheet…

While their participation in the Asian Games is up in the air with the Indian government yet to take a final call, India managed a win against Shanghai East Asia by registering a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

Mandar Rao Dessai opened the scoring for the Blue Tigers just before the end of the first half (44th minute) before Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri added his name on the score sheet in nine minutes from time.

In the first half, Chhetri, Siam Hanghal and Dessai combined well and created chances for Robin Singh who failed to make the most of it.

However, India’s dominance brought reward when Dessai latched onto Chhetri pass to place his shot into the back of the net.

For the second goal, Hanghal found Robin who in turn, laid it for Chhetri to do the needful and double India’s advantage.

Towards the closing stages, Chheti missed a chance to score another goal while Seiminlen Doungel’s attempt came off the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Indian women were impressive in their 4-2 win over Century Park Football Club with Bala Devi scoring a hat-trick and Prema Devi also on the score sheet.
