Aiborlang Khongjee has joined Shillong Lajong for the third time this summer after a two-year stint with Mohun Bagan.

He first played for the north eastern side in the 2006-07 season and thereafter moved to East Bengal. After a disappointing season with the Red and Gold, he returned to Lajong for four seasons before joins the Mariners.

"I have grown as a footballer and matured a lot during my career so far with Shillong Lajong and Mohun Bagan," the 26-year-old told Goal when asked his thoughts on his return to the Lajong fold.

"I am very grateful to Lajong for giving me the platform to debut in the I-League six years back. Like many young footballers in the region, I had always hoped to have a long career in football and hence, I am hugely indebted to them (Lajong) for the opportunity to make my dream come true in 2008.

"Mohun Bagan wanted to sign me after my performances with Lajong and so I also gained invaluable experience with them (Bagan) in Kolkata," he added.

During his time with Bagan, Khongjee’s impressive performances saw him make his national team debut against Philippines in November last year.

"While I was with them (Bagan), my dream to play for the national team was fulfilled and I’m looking forward to make many more appearances for my country," he said.

The Meghalaya-based stopper back is pleased that he has an opportunity to play both in the I-League as well as the Indian Super League (ISL) with Guwahati's North East United FC.

"I am also proud to represent my state (Meghalaya) playing for Lajong in the I-League as well as the ISL. I am looking forward to an incredible season with Lajong and North East United FC," Khongjee concluded.
