Indian National Team: Bob Houghton In Goa To Prepare For The AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers

The chief coach returns...
While the All India Football Federation (AIFF) are busy seeking legal opinion over the 'derogatory' remarks made by Bob Houghton during the 2011 Asian Cup, the Englishman has returned to Goa following his holiday in South Africa on Wednesday.

The Executive Committee of the AIFF expressed their displeasure over the performance of the team on the continental stage and are keen to see the back of the experienced coach after having offered him a contract renewal until 2013 less than a year back!

Racism charges too have been levelled on the coach with referee Dinesh Nair claiming that he was referred to as a "Bastard Indian Referee" in Pune during an international friendly back in October last year.

Houghton has dismissed the above allegations and pointed at his clean record of the past and the support he has had from the players and staff.

With India to participate in the AFC Challenge Cup 2012 qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur later this month, Houghton has already named his 44 probables and is expected to have a week long camp in Goa.

It will be interesting to see whether the AIFF actually do take an action against the coach or it was merely a case of lip service.
