Deepak Mandal, one of Indian football's stalwarts, will seek to script a new chapter in Kolkata football when the Calcutta Football League (CFL) kicks off next month. The veteran Indian defender has agreed to join Kolkata-based Southern Samity on a three month contract.  

Mandal, a 2010 Arjuna awardee, has played in the Red and Gold of East Bengal for the last two seasons, but has found his appearances increasingly limited, with the club having recruited Rahul Bheke. 

The Naomundi-born right-back is a product of the famed Tata Football Academy (TFA), passing out in 1998 with esteemed batchmate and former India national teammate Mahesh Gawli. He made his debut for the now defunct Jagatjit Cotton & Textile Football Club (JCT) in 1998.

He has since been a staple of Kolkata football playing for clubs such as Mohun Bagan and United SC besides East Bengal. He had a stint at Mahindra United sandwiching two spells in the West Bengal capital. 

Mandal has also delved into the Indian Super League (ISL) plying for Mumbai City FC in the first season and then Kerala Blasters in the second edition. 

On the international front, the 38 year-old has made several appearannces, making his debut in 2001.
