World Player of the Week: Jurgen Locadia - PSV

World Player of the Week
Jurgen Locadia
AGE 18
Achilles 29
2-3 PSV
0-6 PSV

Teenager Jurgen Locadia has hit the headlines in the Netherlands this week, marking two milestone appearances with goals.

In midweek, he lined up for his first PSV start of the season against Achilles in the KNVB Beker and took little over 25 minutes to make an impression, notching the opening goal for his side as they fought back from behind to progress to the next round.

It was at the weekend that he really shone, though. Coming off the bench for his Eredivisie debut against a morale-sapped VVV side, he grabbed a hat-trick in less than 30 minutes of action. Not only did he complete a treble for himself, he laid one on for Dries Mertens, who himself registered a three-strike haul.

He truly was in relentless scoring form, having also bagged four for the reserves on Monday.

With an impressive goalscoring instinct for one so young, he is a player well worth keeping tabs on in the coming years.

Congratulations to Jurgen Locadia,'s 176th World Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Edinson Cavani - Napoli

The Uruguayan striker has propelled his side towards the summit of Serie A off the back of his goalscoring exploits this week. A midweek treble against Lazio was the highlight, but his penalty to decide the weekend fixture against Sampdoria was key, too. He is currently the leading scorer in Italy's top flight.

Manandeep Singh - East Bengal

The young attacker led his side to Federation Cup glory in India by completing an intense week of competition in fine style. He played four matches over the course of a week and finished with four goals, including one in the final against Dempo SC, which was won 3-2 after extra time.

Marco Reus - Borussia Dortmund

The attacker was the star of the show in a 5-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend, breaking the deadlock with a beautiful individual goal and adding a third with an incredible chipped effort. He also scored in the midweek draw against Eintracht Frankfurt with a terrific low shot.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid

Ronaldo has hit the headlines in recent weeks because of his unhappiness at the Spanish giants, but he has at least recovered his killer instinct in front of goal, scoring three for Los Blancos at the weekend in a comfortable win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Luis Suarez - Liverpool

Suarez scored his second hat-trick in as many seasons at Carrow Road but his contribution was not limited to goals. Abuse was hurled in his direction all afternoon and he was denied a penalty that could easily have gone his way had his reputation not gone before him.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
