Mohun Bagan are all set to sign Prabir Das from Dempo on a two-year deal.
“The deal is 99 per cent done. I have agreed terms with Bagan but haven’t signed for them yet. The formalities will be completed in the next few days,” Prabir told Goal on Saturday.
The defender had a year left on his contract with Dempo SC but with the Golden Eagles now poised to play in the second division next season, he has decided to part ways with the club.
“I recently read an interview of Shrinivas Dempo, our chairman, who is also a great person. He had said that he would like to keep the team but if any player is interested to play in the I-League, he would not stop him. He is probably out of station now. I will talk to him once he is back,” he said, clearing the air over his future.
Prabir, who had made 24 appearances for Pailan Arrows back in 2012-13 I-League, was afforded very limited playing time this season. The 22-year-old played less than 100 minutes in the Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League combined in the recently concluded campaign. However, he received a surprise call-up to the national squad ahead of India's twin pre-World Cup qualifiers against Nepal, but couldn't make it to the first team.
On the other hand, Mohun Bagan have released their second choice right-back Deepak Devrani, which would mean Prabir will have to challenge former teammate Pritam Kotal for a starting berth, given that Kingshuk Debnath has been deployed as a central defender in recent times.
