Romeo Fernandes joins Brazil’s Clube Atletico Paranaense

The 22-year old who impressed during his stint with FC Goa in the Indian Super League will ply his trade for the Brazilian top division club…

Romeo Fernandes will don Clube Atletico Paranaense's (Atletico PR) colours after Dempo SC agreed to let the player go on-loan to the Brazilian club until the end of June.

The Goan attacking midfielder drew plaudits after scoring three goals for FC Goa, also winning three man of the match awards in the prestigious Indian Super League (ISL).

The youngster has signed the contract on 15th February, till the end of June. Atletico PR has the option to renew the contract till December, 2015 and thereafter has the option to buy the player from Dempo.

That will mean Romeo's possible unavailability from the next iteration of the ISL. From the beginning of the loan period all expenses will be borne by the Brazilian club and Dempo will be eligible to receive a transfer fee at the end of the loan period if Atletico PR buy the player. Under the terms of the agreement Dempo will also be compensated if  Atletico PR sell Romeo to any other club after buying him.

FC Goa coach Zico and marquee player Robert Pires were mightily impressed with Fernandes’ talent and dedication in training.

It must be noted that Atletico PR has an agreement with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) wherein the Brazilian outfit shall help in building a strong U-17 team for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in India.

The Furacao are currently placed eighth in the Brazilian Serie A.

Amongst the star players to have emerged out of Atletico PR, Manchester City’s Fernandinho is the foremost.
