Subrata Paul has agreed a loan move to Salgaocar FC from Mumbai City FC for the remainder of the 2014-15 season, Goal can reveal.
The Goan giants, who kick-start their Federation Cup campaign in a few days, were dealt a major blow a couple of weeks ago when Karanjit Singh got injured in one of the training sessions and has thereby, been ruled out of action for at least two months or so.
Karanjit played an important role for Salgaocar this season having helped them win the Durand Cup and the Goa Pro League.
Derrick Pereira’s side have however, done well to fill the void by securing the services of Paul, who had a mixed season with Mumbai City.
Paul, who is the first Indian shot-stopper to earn a professional contract in an European league, will be representing a Goan club for the first time in his career.
The last time he played in the country’s top division league was a short loan spell for Rangdajied United last season wherein he put in several top performances.
With Karanjit and Subrata are part of their rosters, Salgaocar have the best goalkeeping contingent in the country and it will be interesting to see who makes it to the first team when the two are fit.
