Leo Bertos signs for NorthEast United FC

NorthEast United FC have roped in the services of Leo Bertos on loan from East Bengal, Goal can confirm.

With Bertos joining the north east side, all three foreign players of the Red and Gold brigade have joined the Indian Super League (ISL) bandwagon, with Ranti Martins and Dudu Omagbemi having penned a deal with FC Goa and FC Pune City respectively.

The 32-year has played under the tutelage of Ricki Herbert for the New Zealand national team and Wellington Phoenix. Herbert has used him in multiple positions in the past ranging from an attacking midfielder to a defensive one and has also been featured as a right back on several occasions.

Bertos played in each of the three group games at the 2010 World Cup where they remained unbeaten against the likes of Slovakia, Italy and Paraguay.

When contacted, Bertos remained unavailable for comment.

The Highlanders will open their campaign in their own backyard when they host Kerala Blasters on October 15, 2014.
