Trapattoni backs Benitez for Napoli post

The Italian coach believes the Spaniard would be an excellent substitute to take over the reigns from Walter Mazzarri at the San Paolo
Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni feels Rafael Benitez would be an "excellent choice" to succeed Walter Mazzarri at Napoli.

Mazzarri revealed his desire to take on a new challenge after the Partenopei's final game of the Serie A season, and the club has been linked with a move for freshly-crowned Europa League winner Benitez, who is preparing to leave his interim post with Chelsea

"Benitez would be an excellent choice, because he has experience and ability," former Bayern Munich coach Trapattoni told reporters.

However, the Spaniard's agent, Garcia Manuel Quillon, has insisted there has not yet been an approach from Napoli regarding his client's services, although he admitted the Serie A giants would be a tempting destination.

"I can say that Napoli is considered a large club, has steadily improved in recent years, [so] we do not exclude anything but can confirm nothing," he told Napoli Network.

"The future is still uncertain, we will see."
