Arsenal Move For Micah Richards - Report

Out of favour Manchester City defender Micah Richards could be on his way to Arsenal.
Arsenal are planning to make a move for Manchester City defender Micah Richards, according to the News of the World.

The tabloid claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to offer the Citizens £7 million for the 20-year-old defender.

Richards signed a five-year deal at Eastlands a year ago, but a combination of injuries and poor form means he is no longer an automatic choice and has now lost his place in the England squad.

Whilst Mark Hughes’ men have been linked with dozens of players in the transfer window, aside from Wayne Bridge they have yet to strengthen defensively, although should they do so it may lead to Richards contemplating his future at the club.

Certainly Arsenal would prove an attractive proposition and central defence is an area in which Wenger may be keen to strengthen.

With Kolo Toure having seemingly fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and Philippe Senderos out on loan at AC Milan, William Gallas and Johan Djourou appear to be his favoured partnership, yet there is little back-up aside from Alex Song and veteran Mikael Silvestre.

Furthemore, Gallas’ future at the club is also far from secure, after his outbursts earlier this season which cost him the Arsenal captaincy, and Wenger may view Richards as the ideal replacement for his former skipper.

The Frenchman often seems reluctant to spend, preferring to trust his young players instead, although £7million on a young player such as Richards may prove to be tempting.
