Lecce’s Andrea Esposito Astounded By Italy Call-Up

The defender is overjoyed by Marcello Lippi’s decision to select him in the national squad.
Marcello Lippi announced his squad for Italy’s upcoming friendly match against Northern Ireland on June 6, and as always, there were a number of surprises.

Antonio Cassano was snubbed yet again, whilst eight players received their first ever call-up to a new-look Azzurri squad, with Lecce’s Andrea Esposito being one of them.

“It is a dream come true for me,” Esposito was quoted as saying in an interview with Goal Italia.

“For every boy who plays football, wearing the national team colours is really the ultimate dream.

“The thought of training alongside great players, as well as with the coach Lippi, is an indescribable emotion.”

If given the opportunity in the upcoming friendly, the defender will do all within his power to convince Lippi to include him in the final squad for the Confederations Cup, which starts on June 15 for the Azzurri.
