The All India Football Federation (AIFF) mulled over the number of foreigners to be fielded in various tournaments in the country and it was agreed upon that only two of three registered foreign players could be employed in a local league match at a given time.
Kolkata League is to start in less than a months time and while the inter state transfers have already started, the sudden change in the rule came in as a shocker for many clubs.
“The sudden change dashed our plans we already signed one defender and one striker, we were looking for an Asian striker but now we are allowed to field only two foreigners. I have already signed up my players I do not know how we can solve this issue,”said one of the top officials from Bhowanipore Club.
Tollygunj Agragami who recently appointed Shabbir Ali as their coach are looking forward to field their team in I-League II as well. For different set of rules for different tournaments clubs like Tollygunj are in big trouble.
Club Official Mr.Saha from Tollygunj said, “We want to field our team to play in I-League II. For the I-League we can field three foreigners but for the local league only two. So I need to pay one foreigner for athe whole year but he will only serve me during the I-League. This is not a good decision.”
For bigger clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, this rule cannot pose a problem given that they have enough financial backing to afford such a squad. But the FA should have certainly given a second thought about the problems faced by the smaller clubs in this respect in the belief of many clubs with a small time budget.
