I-League Second Division: Final Round - Match Day 3 Round Up

Two matches were played on Match Day 3....

Malabar United 3–0 Sesa Football Academy

Loveday (53’)

Asif K. (55’)

Firos K. (70’)

Malabar United opened their Final Round campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Sesa Football Academy at the KFSA Stadium in Bangalore.

Both teams played out a dull first half, cancelling each other out. They went in to the break scoreless. Little did Sesa know what was in store for them in the second half. Malabar seized the initiative and took the lead in the 53rd minute through Enyinnaya Loveday. Sesa barely had time to regroup before Malabar struck again, just two minutes later! This time it was Asif K. getting on the score sheet. Malabar wiped out any chance of a Sesa comeback in the 70th minute, when Firos K. put the ball into the back of the net.

This win gives Malabar three important points and will be a major confidence boost, which they can carry into their next game. Sesa on the other hand are in trouble after losing their second game in a row and will need to come back strongly if they want to have any chance of making it to the I-League.

HAL Bangalore 3–1 Oil India

Xavier Kumar (30’)

Satish Kumar (53’)

Xavier Kumar (87’)

P. Choudhary (87’)

HAL registered their second win on the trot against a lacklustre Oil India team in front of their fans at the KFSA Stadium in Bangalore.

Captain Xavier Vijay Kumar was the hero of the day, as his brace helped get HAL all three points. He scored his first goal at the half hour mark to give HAL the lead that they carried into halftime. HAL kept up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded in the 53rd minute, when Satish Kumar Junior found himself in a scoring position and made no mistake. Xavier completed his brace in the 71st minute to ensure victory for the local team. Oil India did score goal in the 87th minute through Prasanta Choudhary, but this was nothing more than a consolation.

This win takes HAL to the top of the Final Round standings and puts them in a strong position to qualify. Oil India, with a draw and a defeat, need to find their scoring boots fast and get more points on the board if they want to feature in the I-League next year.
