Sait Nagjee Tournament Report: TSV 1860 Munich U-23 3-0 Argentina U-23: Germans come on top

The sky blue and white stripes got off to a disappointing start in the Mahindra & Mahindra Sait Nagjee international football tournament

The Group B matches of the Sait Nagjee international tournament at the Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala, got underway with TSV 1860's Under-23 side picking a 3-0 win over the Argentina Under-23 team on Saturday.

Felix Bachschmid scored the opener in the 18th minute. The German outfit's lead was doubled by Simon Sefferings in the 25th minute and the scoreline was completed by substitute Christian Koppel in the 78th minute.

TSV, with their U-21 team, were impressive on the evening but their strategy to soak the pressure after attaining a 2-0 lead at half-time could have proved costly. Thankfully enough, they had the brilliance of goalkeeper Kai Fritz who prevented at least a couple of goals in the second half.

After Felix Webber's penalty kick was saved by Argentina's goalkeeper Facundo Ferrero, Bachschmid was at hand to make it 1-0 in the 18th minute. In seven minutes, TSV rode on the rhythm of the game and Sefferings rifled a long-range effort from about 25 yards out into the top right corner.

Franco Mantovano, Sergio Acosta and Braian Sanchez were all denied by the incredible Fritz in goal before TSV substitute Koeppel, minutes after coming on in place of Nicholas Herlmbrecht, took on the left channel and beat rival goalkeeper Ferrero from a rather acute angle in the 78th minute.

Come Sunday, Romania’s Rapid Bucharest face off against Volyn Luvtsk from Ukraine. Unlike the four teams who have played so far, both these teams will field their senior teams.
