India U-17 captain Deependra Singh Negi eyes Spain stint after undergoing trials at Espanyol

The youngster has been a regular member of the India age group sides for the last few years.

Deependra Singh Negi, the captain of the India U-17 national team underwent trials at La Liga side Espanyol last week, Goal can reveal. The young midfielder will also take part in the practice session of a couple of other renowned Spanish clubs in the next few months.

Negi, who was the captain of the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) team which won the Subroto Cup last year, has decided to move to the Iberian nation, learn Spanish and increase his chances of signing a professional contract when he turns 18 later this year. 

"He had also gone to Hospitalet and San Andreu and everywhere the coaches were impressed with him. He is now moving to Spain for good," Ravi Daswani, the player's agent informed.

Negi will be the second Indian youngster to move to Spain in order to earn a contract after defender Avneet Bharti shifted base to the European country a couple of years ago.
