Kolkata club Mohun Bagan have further bolstered their squad ahead of the I-League as they have brought in promising midfielder Brandon Fernandes on loan from Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC, Goal can confirm.
"Yes, I have signed a deal with Mohun Bagan and will be arriving in Kolkata on Wednesday evening," Fernandes, who snubbed another Kolkata giant East Bengal, told Goal.
The 21-year-old spearheaded Sporting Clube de Goa's dramatic comeback to avoid relegation in the last edition of the I-League after the Flaming Oranje had suffered a horrible start to the campaign. However, in the second edition of ISL he could only play a bit part role for the Ranbir Kapoor co-owned franchise due to injury concerns.
The winger, who has had loan spells with a number of high-profile clubs, was one of the most sought after players in the recent transfer window. Apart from Mohun Bagan, the likes of East Bengal, Mumbai FC and DSK Shivajians were also keen to take him on board. However, the chance to play in the AFC Champions League worked as a catalyst as the Goan player chose to don the Green and Maroon colours.
Mohun Bagan will start their campaign against newbies Aizawl FC in the I-League curtain-raiser on 9th January.
