After gong into negotiations with a number of foreign coaches, Mohun Bagan chose to appoint Sanjoy Sen to take charge of their team with immediate effect.
The Mariners had decided to part ways with Technical Director Subash Bhowmick last week, after it was clear that the former India international will not be allowed to manage the team in the I-League since he did not have an 'A' coaching license. Sen, on his part has the required coaching license and will thereby replace Shankarlal Chakraborty as the head coach.
Sen had previously been in-charge of Kolkata clubs like Mohammedan Sporting and United Sports Club and enjoyed success mostly in cup competitions. While the Purple Brigade went on to become runners-up in IFA Shield and Durand Cup under his tutelage, the Black and Whites won the Shield last season. Sen had also led Mohammedan to become the champions of the I-League second division a couple of seasons back.
Mohun Bagan are in dire search of silverware, having not won any major trophy since May 2010. Their recent failure came in Bhutan's Kings Cup when they went down to Pune FC in the semi-finals.
