Colomba: FC Pune City will improve

The Italian coach stated that rotating the squad in order to keep them fresh is an essential which cannot be ignored…

FC Pune City coach Franco Colomba believes that his team will progress with each game as they have begun to adapt to the tactics.

“The team continues to improve and it is not easy because after three matches in a week, it is difficult for all. But I believe the team will improve in the future,” he said.

Speaking on his team’s injury concerns, Colomba answered, “I have 2-or-3 players under observation. At this moment I don’t know their situation. Only Omar Rodriguez looks difficult (to start). (Joaquim) Abranches is slowly recovering. Manish (Maithani) has a little niggle. I don’t know if he will be ready.”

The Italian coach acknowledged that maintaining consistency in the Indian Super League (ISL) is a difficult task and there will be results which would not always reflect the strength of the team.

“The championship is difficult but so many decisions are deliberate. Every week there are results which are not normal and very different.  This championship is difficult and unpredictable,” he mentioned.

With matches coming in thick and fast with the ISL season kicking off, Colomba stressed that it is important to keep his players fresh.

“I observe all my players. I have 26 or 25 players and I may change in the second or third match after this. We have players with experience and capacity who are important.

“Every match is always difficult. I think it’s my philosophy, to give respect to all players.”

FC Pune City kept yet another clean sheet against FC Goa and Colomba hinted that he might be tempted to start with the same defensive pairing as the last tie.

“It’s possible. I observe everyday in training. I have (Davide) Magliocchetti, Anupam Sarkar, Bruno Cirillo, (Dharmaraj) Ravanan, (Pritam) Kotal.”
