IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs - Pune Leg

The country's first ever platform to hunt for talented footballers at the school and college level continued in Pune.

IFB Industries Ltd in association with Boca Juniors Football Club of Argentina continued their search for talented footballers from schools and colleges with the Pune leg.

Chandrashekhar Agashe College Football Grounds of Pune played hosts to the 4th stop for IFB Industries nation-wide tour in search of India’s next football star. Having been to New Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata, it was time for IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs to conquer the western part of India.

The enthusiasm among locals in Pune was evident as 32 schools and 24 colleges from the city came forward and participated in the country’s latest football development project. The first day of the event involved the Schools & Junior Colleges leg while on the second day the event involved the Senior Colleges.

Spicer High School emerged as champions of the School leg of the tournament as they scored three goals in the finals to outplay a robust J N Petit defense which stood strong all through the tournament. They will now travel to Goa for the national finals to be held later in the year representing Pune. Fourteen year-old Raj Parasher of J N Petit School was adjudged as the Most Promising Player of the School leg.

Cladeo Nongplugh and Thangjam Sashikanta Singh from Spicer Memorial School were chosen to be coached by Boca Juniors' top coaches at a training camp.

It was double delight for Spicer as their seniors, the Spicer Memorial College beat St. Vincent’s College of Commerce (Night) 3-1 on penalties in the finals. It was a hard fought match which was deadlocked at the end of normal time.

St Vincent’s College failed to convert from the spot in the penalties. Spicer College are now Pune Champions of IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs. Faizi Salim from the Bishops College emerged as the Most Promising player of the tournament in the College leg.

Chief Scout Mr. Jamshid Nassiri selected Shadab Sheikh of University of Pune and Lalremdika of Spicer Memorial College as the scouted players from Pune’s College leg of the event to join the training camp where they will be coached the Boca Juniors way.

IFB Point Partners Mr. Kamlesh Karnik, Mr Subhash Atharve, Mr. Subhash Karnik and Mrs. Priya Karnik along with Chief Scout Mr. Jamshid Nassiri handed out the prizes to Winners and Runners Up.

Having concluded the Pune chapter of the IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs, the next stop will be the powerhouse of Indian football Goa.
