In a period that has seen many youngsters being offered trials at foreign clubs, French club FC Metz has identified two Delhi-based youngsters to undergo a full-time training stint with the club.

The youngsters, Manas Kaalra and Shiv Jhangiani, underwent trials with the French club via Edukick Sports, a company started by Eric Benny, a former manager of the Indian national team. Benny and former US All Ivy League player, Yogesh Maurya oversaw the training of the Delhi boys for 3 years before offering them the chance to train at the FC Metz academy that has produced the likes of Robert Pires, Papiss Cisse, Emmanuel Adebayor and Louis Saha.

Shiv Jhangiani, who has already impressed Metz officials after his performances against the Luxembourg National team said, "In the three months that I have been here, I already feel part of the club. I stay with the other Academy players, train with them and go to school with them. I was lucky enough to train under Eric and Yogesh. They prepared me both on and off the field and the period of intense training proved invaluable in getting selected."

Manas Kaalra expressed his enthusiasm after knowing that he had been chosen for this unique opportunity. "Being at Metz is a dream come true for me. Being a professional footballer is something that I have strived for. I need to thank my coach Eric for developing me and helping me pursue my dream. He is more of a friend and mentor than a coach. I hope to make the best of this opportunity and continue my development as a player so that I can compete with the best in the world," said Kaalra.

Eric Benny feels FC Metz's visits to India has helped them gauge the level of Indian football and pledged further contribution to help it reach the highest level.
