Singapore will come hard at us – India’s Subrata Paul

The India number one believes that his side are more than ready for the Singaporean test and that the Blue Tigers are far better than what the FIFA rankings suggest...

Subrata Paul believes that the international friendly against Singapore on Tuesday at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium will be highly “competitive”. He added that he doesn’t have an in-depth information of the opponents but stated their style could be similar to the rest of the teams in the south-east Asian region.

“I don’t have much idea of Singapore except for the Video which we were shown in the team meeting,” said Subrata.

“All south east Asian teams are very strong and come hard at you. Singapore will be no different from Thailand and Malaysia. But we go into the match with a lot of confidence. It will be a competitive match for sure,” he added.

India are ranked 168th in the world while Singapore are placed six places above. The Prayag United custodian opines that should India play regularly on FIFA matchdays, they shall certainly break into the top 100.

“I can tell you we have the potential to be below 100. I need to thank the All India Football Federation for arranging the International Friendly against Singapore,” said the former Pune FC goalkeeper.

“We need to play on all FIFA Dates without fail for the next 18 months. If we play that regularly, I guarantee you, we will surely be below 100 in the FIFA Rankings. We are much better than 168!” he mentioned.
