It was Services' second triumph in seven appearances of the Santosh Trophy after beating Tamil Nadu 3-2 in the final...
Services got the better of Tamil Nadu in a five-goal thriller to lift the 66th Santosh Trophy in the final played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Orissa, on Monday.

Sanju Subba (45'), Subrata Sarkar (49') and VV Farhad (67') were the scorers for Services while Santa Kumar (82') and M Ramesh (89') reduced the margin of defeat for Tamil Nadu.

Gordon Zoramchhana was unlucky of finding the target in the 17th minute when the Services skipper's shot came off the crossbar that landed in the path of team-mate ZV Horin who was eventually blocked out by Tamil Nadu defender Suman Raj.

Tamil Nadu tried to hit back on the counter as Jayakumar's effort brushed wide in the 22nd minute but their best chance was in the 44th minute when Charles Anand Raj defeated Services defender Rary Raj to Nirmal Kumar’s aerial delivery that however was dealt with by rival keeper AK Balwant.

In the very next minute, Services midfielder Subba struck with a curling right footed effort that beat Tamil Nadu goalkeeper Akhil Soman to go into the break with a one-goal lead.

Crossing over, in the 49th minute, Sarkar was in the right place to tap in the ball to double his side's lead after Horin’s firm strike was kept out by the Tamil Nadu goalkeeper.

Then in the 67th minute, Farhad forced Akhil Soman to pick the ball out of his net for the third time when the Services striker got the better of the Tamil Nadu goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

It was only until the 82nd minute that Santa Kumar scored the first goal for his side but Tamil Nadu weren't able to make a successful comeback as time ran out before M Ramesh managed to pull back another goal in the 89th minute.

Services have hence claimed their second Santosh Trophy title out of their seven appearances in the tournament's history while Tamil Nadu finish runners up in this year's national championship.
