Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan has finalized their foreign contingent ahead of the I-League after signing Equatoguinean defender Eduardo Ferreira, who was plying his trade for FC Pune City in the Indian Super League (ISL). The former Flamengo and Corinthians youth team player will be joining Sony Norde, Yusa Katsumi and Darryl Duffy with the Green and Maroons starting their preparations for the competition from 26th December.
Eduardo has played for top-flight clubs in Brazil, Colombia, South Africa and Iran before coming to India and will be the second Equatoguinean player after Raul Fabiani to play in the top-tier league of the country.
The outfit, coached by Sanjoy Sen, have also brought in Delhi Dynamos defender Anas Edathodika, who will be playing for a non-Maharashtra based I-League team for the first time in his career. The Kerala born professional, who has been a pivotal part of the Delhi Dynamos line-up for the last couple of years, was courted by East Bengal also, but chose to join their arch-rivals after the Red and Golds eventually backed out.
Mohun Bagan have also signed their former players Balwant Singh and Sehnaj Singh for the reminder of the season. While Balwant was nursing an injury, Sehnaj had represented the other Kolkata club last year, but failed to repeat his heroics there after a high-profile move following Bagan’s I-League victory.
The club has also been able to retain Jeje Lalpekhlua, who was named as the AIFF Player of the Year this week after being named as the winner of the inaugural Goal 25. While the terms have already been agreed, it must be noted that both Jeje and Sony are yet to sign on the dotted lines.
Mohun Bagan will start their campaign with a home match against Churchill Brothers on 8th January.
