Bengaluru FC have been on a veritable spending spree as they look to fortify their ranks and mount a successful defense of their I-League title.
After adding two midfielders in Harmanjot Singh Khabra and Lenny Rodrigues last week, the Albert Roca-led side has roped in three players on loan from Indian Super League (ISL) teams.
Shaqiri: Bayern blocked Liverpool move
The impressive left-back Lalhmangaihsanga 'Sena' Ralte joins from Mumbai City FC, while Mandar Rao Dessai is brought in from FC Goa while Arindam Bhattacharya will be fighting to be the custodian of choice at the Blues.
Sena Ralte had a fantastic tournament for Mumbai FC in the recently concluded ISL, being one of the few Indian full-backs to earn plaudits. In Bengaluru FC he will be fighting with the likes of Keegan Pereira and Lalchuanmawia for his preferred left-back position.
Meanwhile Mandar Rao Dessai was part of the disastrous FC Goa foray and will look to make amends with his stint at the Champions of India. A winger with great feet, Dessai can be deployed on either wings and can also play as an attacking midfielder.
Arindam Bhattacharya, on the other hand will fight to make the goalkeeper's spot his own but will face tough competition from Amrinder Singh and Lalthuammawia Ralte who have established themselves last season.
'Dominant Chelsea PL favourites'
Bhattacharya has played for the likes of Churchill Brothers and Mohun Bagan in India's top football tournament and has also a winners medal to his name with Churchill.
Roca welcomed the signings and said that it was necessary to have good squad depth as Bengaluru FC would be engaged in both the I-League and continental competition at the same time.
“We will be competing in two tournaments at the same time and it’s going to take squad depth if we are to do well. Sena is coming off a good tournament with Mumbai City FC, Mandar is a very talented youngster who has made rapid strides and Arindam brings with him the kind of experience that will keep Amrinder and Ralte on their toes at all times. These are good additions to our squad and I hope they get up to speed with our systems given there’s very little time before the League begins,” said Blues coach Albert Roca.
In other I-League related transfer news, Shillong Lajong FC have signed Rocus Lamare to add to their midfield.
