Dempo Sports Club began their pre-season training for the forthcoming season, at Duler Stadium, in Mapusa, on Monday.
The I-League second division champions, are set to begin their campaign in the Durand Cup that begins from August 28th in Delhi.
The inaugural training session of the season began with an introductory process for the new signings to get to know the current squad members, followed by a fitness session for coach Mauricio Afonso to evaluate the physical condition of the players.
The Golden Eagles have retained a clutch of their players from last season, namely Romeo Fernandes, Felix Odili Chidi, Chika Wali, Beevan Dmello, Milagres Gonsalves and Mandar Rao Dessai.
In addition to this, they have signed six new players in Adil Khan, Joaquim Abranches, Mario Mascarenhas, Priyant Singh, Assumption Soares and Flexburn Souza to bolster the squad that won back promotion.
While Dempo's participation in the forthcoming I-League campaign is still shrouded in uncertainty, club owner Shrinivas Dempo has informed the new signings that Dempo SC will not shut shop.
It will be interesting to see if the five time I-League champions chooses to return to India's premier football competition or decides to boycott he I-League along with Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa.
