I-League - Santosh Kashyap announced as new Mumbai FC Head Coach

Santosh Kashyap has been announced as the new head coach of Mumbai Football Club. Kashyap will replace Khalid Jamil who led the club for seven years.

The 49 year old was in-charge of Salgaocar FC in the 2015/16 season of the I-League and guided the Vasco club to a seventh place finish.

Annoucing Kashyap's arrival, Deputy Vice President of the club, Atul Badgamia stated that Kashyap in his opinion is the right man for the job.

"Santosh is one of the best managers in Indian football today. He has won and inspired players and he knows the I-League very well,” he told Mumbai FC's official website.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome him to Mumbai FC. His track record of success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate to take the club forward. It is our aim to achieve greater success in the future and Santosh as we believe he is the right manager to do just that," he added.

Santosh Kashyap expressed his pleasure at being appointed Mumbai FC's new gaffer by pointing out that he has always experienced a special connection with the Cooperage stadium which is the Yellow Brigade's home ground.

"To become Mumbai FC manager is organic growth for me. It is the club of a city having a hundred year old football legacy and also where I have played  my football. It is a great honor that I have been offered the responsibility of managing the top football club of Mumbai, a city known and admired throughout India and the world”.

"I have always felt an affinity with Cooperage; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the football fraternity in Mumbai. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying the magnificent support of the Yellow Brigade in the coming season." Kashyap told Mumbaifc.com

The former Salgaocar boss has also coached the likes of Air India, Mohun Bagan and has been an assistant coach at Indian Super League (ISL) franchise, NorthEast United. The highlight of his managerial career has been guiding Royal Wahingdoh to a third place finish in the 2014/15 season of the I-League and it will be interesting to see if he can replicate the same at Mumbai FC.
