Welcome to Goal 's new I-League feature: Top and Flop . For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal , who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day.
|TOP: DARRYL DUFFY|
The Scottish striker is a livewire in the field and was at his best for Salgaocar FC on Sunday. Duffy put his side ahead in the 44th minute as a long ball by Gurjinder Singh was latched upon by the former Swansea City striker to score past Aizawl FC’s goalkeeper.
Duffy was also persistent in his attempts to double the lead with his passing, but the likes of Seityasen Singh and Jackichand Singh could not finish opportunities provided to them by the Scot. Needless to say, Duffy was the key source of inspiration for the hosts.
|FLOP: REAGAN SINGH|
Santosh Kashyap deployed a 5-2-2-1 formation against Aizawl FC with the emphasis clear on shutting out their mercurial play. Eder Monteiro, Augustin Fernandes and Reagan Singh comprised the back three along with Keenan Almeida and Gurjinder Singh as the full-back defenders.
Salgaocar’s new formation was working perfectly as they were close to a hard earned win, until Reagan Singh mistimed his clearance in the box and kicked Aizawl’s Alfred Jaryan to concede a penalty which was converted. Reagan was also largely absent during the course of the game and Eder had to cover for him.
