Brazilian defender Luciano Sobrosa, who has been roped in by defending I-League champions Mohun Bagan recently, is expected to start training only five days before the first match of the Mariners.
Sources in the know of things informed Goal that the seasoned professional, who snubbed Salgaocar to don the Green and Maroon jersey, will be joining the practice on 4th January next year.
Luciano is the second most experienced defender in the competition after Bello Rasaq and has been through thick and thin in the top tier league of the country. He was part of the Salgaocar side that won the silverware in the 2011-12 and then was part of the Mohammedan squad that was relegated in the 2013-14 campaign.
Luciano last played for Pune FC in the I-League while his latest stint in Indian football was for FC Goa in the recently concluded second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Mohun Bagan have decided to release Haiti defender Judelin Aveska, who made his debut for the side in the horrendous 4-0 drubbing in the hands of arch-rival East Bengal earlier this year.
Another FC Goa defender Raju Gaikwad has also not joined the Mohun Bagan training yet, as coach Sanjoy Sen is reliant on the likes of Shouvik Ghosh, Kinshuk Debnath and Prabir Das in the practice games. Mohun Bagan will face Bhawanipore in another friendly on Saturday.
