Coach Mateus Costa heaped praise on Brandon Fernandes who has had an impact on their season with some exceptional display down the right flank.
“For the last seven-to-eight matches, the boys were playing well and were giving their best. The victory was just eluding us. Now we are just thinking about moving ahead.
“When Brandon joined our squad, things really changed. He is very good on the wing and we were lacking that kind of a player. He is also a free-kick specialist and the goal that he scored today was beautiful,” said Costa.
Asked to throw light on the winger’s future and whether he would participate in the upcoming edition of the Indian Super League (ISL), Costa stated that it was a decision the club’s management have to take.
“He was practicing for a long period of time for us and got injured that time. Now both parties have agreed and hopefully he will continue to play for us. It's the decision of the player and the management whether he will be leased for the ISL. Now it has become the dream of every footballer to play in the ISL. The player's frame of mind should always be happy to perform well. It (ISL) may also give him some good exposure which may help the club,” he said.
However, Sporting were guilty of missing open chances in the game and Costa hoped that they do not repeat such mistakes in the forthcoming games.
“Yes, we missed two complete sitters but the victory was most important. I am happy with the three points. We have to keep working hard because I heard that Shillong Lajong has also won against Dempo. So, we need to move on from here,” he concluded.
