Kris Bright has agreed to join Kalyani Group’s I-League side for the 2014-15 season, Goal can reveal.
Bright made an appearance as an 85th minute substitute in New Zealand’s 5-0 thrashing against Spain in the 2009 Confederations Cup.
The striker was a regular member of the Under-17 and Under-20 sides of the All Whites but could only make six international appearances for the senior team.
Bright has plied his trade in a number of countries and played for the likes of Shrewsbury Town of England and Kristiansund BK of Norway. He also played for Lincoln City in the Conference Premier, the fifth tier of England football.
Bright is a former teammate of East Bengal midfielder Leo Bertos, who also played in the aforementioned fixture against Spain.
Kalyani Group were granted a direct entry into the I-League this season after they showed an interest and fulfilled the norms asked by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
They have appointed Stuart Watkiss as their head coach and have begun the process of roping in players for the upcoming season.
The team will not participate in the Federation Cup to be held in Goa this season and will instead start their journey in India’s top flight when the I-League kicks-off on 17th January next year.
