Mohammedan Sporting relegated from I-League

Sanjoy Sen's men have finally succumbed, as Churchill's victory over Salgaocar leaves them to drop into the second division…

Mohammedan Sporting have been relegated fom I-League following Churchill Brothers’s 2-1 win over Salgaocar FC on Monday.

The Kolkata club have been shocking this season, sitting on 24 points after 24 matches – a far cry from the having won the Durand Cup and IFA Shield this season.

Bola Moshood began the season in charge, riding high after having won the Durand Cup, but was relieved of his duties in December 2013 as Mohammedan struggled in I-League.

His replacement, Sanjoy Sen, saw no more luck in the hot seat as they continued to flail and flounder.

Mohammedan, who finished second in last season’s second division I-League made it into the top flight after a gap of four seasons. Back in the 2008-09 season, they picked up 22 points from as many matches and got relegated.

Although they did win their final game against Mumbai FC on the road, it wasn’t enough to save them from the drop.
