East Bengal have finally chosen Trevor Morgan’s replacement, as the club announced that Brazilian Marcos Falopa, shall be taking over as the head coach for the next season.
Falopa, who has been a FIFA instructor since 1996, has during a coaching career spanning three decades, travelled to more than 100 countries, and has been at the helm of national sides like South Africa, Oman and Myanmar.
The 64 year old veteran coach will be followed to East Bengal by his son Americo, who shall be joining the club as the fitness trainer-cum-goalkeeping coach, East Bengal president Pranab Dasgupta said at the club tent.
"When (Trevor) Morgan joined he had no clue about India. But For Falopa, it will be an advantage as he knows the football scenario in these parts," an East Bengal official said, pointing towards the Brazilian’s experience as a FIFA instructor in South Asia..The Red and Gold brigade’s secretary Kalyan Majumdar revealed how the club had worked hard to arrange for the funds needed to bring the 64 year old in India and revealed, "Finally we were able to sponsor our coach and we have not compromised on quality. He has a deep knowledge about the game and his CV is prolific. We hope to realise the unfinished dream of winning the I-League. Besides, we are keen on getting to the AFC Cup final," Majumdar said.
The father-son duo are expected to join the team by the first week of July, and will be tasked with continuing East Bengal’s present good run in the AFC Cup, while bringing the I-League to Kolkatan shores.
