Lebanese defender Bilal Najjarin leaves Churchill Brothers

The centre-back received a lucrative offer from Fujairah SC of UAE, and decided to leave the Goans mid-way through the season. The club is still hunting for a replacement...

In a major set-back to Churchill’s hopes of winning the I-League title, it was today revealed that defensive lynchpin, Bilal Najjarin has left the club, in favour of a sojourn to United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The 0-0 draw against Mumbai FC has proven to be his last game for the Red Machines.

It is being reported that when the Lebanese signed a one year deal with the Goan club, he had inserted a clause in his contract, which allowed him to leave on a free transfer, if he received a better offer from a foreign club.

The offer from Fujairah SC from UAE is reportedly a significant rise from the deal which he signed with Churchill Brothers and the 31 year old did not wish to pass off this golden opportunity to ensure his financial stability.

This news shall prove to be a major set-back to Churchill’s hopes of lifting the I-League title, as the defender has been one of the main reasons for their rise to the top of the table.

The club is still hunting for a suitable replacement for the Lebanese.

In what proved to be a wretched day for the Goans faithful, their Brazilian maestro, Beto is also set to be ruled out for the next two games, after being rushed to a hospital with a dislocated finger.

It remains to be seen how the club copes with the absence of the duo in the coming weeks.
