Salgaocar FC have set sights on midfielder John Wilkinson to replace Sean Rooney who was released by the Goan side on amicable terms, as revealed by club secretary R.A.J. Gomes.

"We have already roped in John Wilkinson who will arive in Goa as soon as he gets his visa and other formalities are procesed," Gomes told

"He (Wilkinson) will be able to play for us from January as we'll be registering him in the January window, but he'll be training with the team until then," he added.

It didn't click for Rooney at Salgaocar

On the release of Australian striker Sean Rooney, Gomes stated, "We (Rooney and the club) had a meeting and Rooney also accepted that he was not able to perform as it was expected from him, so it was amicably decided to release him from the club."

The future of Phillipines striker Angel Guirado who is currently participating the AFF Suzuki Cup also seems up in the air as Gomes continued, "We are going to talk to Angel Guirado once he is back from his international duty, but he is with the club (Salgaocar) for now."

Will Guirado have a place at Salgaocar?

Meanwhile, it has been reliably learnt that John Wilkinson had fallen out with Home United's head coach Lim-Saeng Lee earlier this year.

Wilkinson, now 33, had joined the S-League outfit in 2012 after a short stint with Thailand's Insee Police United the previous year.

The Singaporean, who started his professional career with hometown club Exeter City FC, has enjoyed a peak in his career between 2006 and 2009 with Singapore Armed Forces where he won four league titles and the Singapore Cup twice.
