Salgaocar SC have completed their quota of foreign signings, as they announced the capture of midfielder Maxime Belouet, who shall now become the first footballer from France to ply his trade in India.
Belouet hails from the city of Orleans which is situated about 100 kms away from Paris in France and replaces Junior Elijah, who has been released by the Goan club.
The midfielder earlier plied his trade in the Singapore league and had been on a trial with Salgaocar for the past few days.
Speaking shortly after unveiling his new signing, Karim Bencherifa said, “We have been observing Maxime since past several days. His physical fitness is excellent. Good vision, superior distribution and passing plus he has managed to gel well with the team. All I can say is he fits perfectly into our plan.”
Salgaocar FC Gen. Secretary Mr. Raj Gomes stated, “The coach has assessed him and he shows a lot of professionalism and promise. We welcome him to our club and we are very hopeful that our club will achieve greater successes with his inception."
The player himself was brimming with excitement over the opportunity to play in India.
"It's a great opportunity for me to play in India, I find everyone to be very friendly, especially my team mates. They have accepted me very well. I look forward for the I-League and AFC Cup matches.”
Karim Bencherifa will hope that the Frenchman can help the club in mounting what still looks like an unlikely title charge. The Goans are presently third in the I-League table, having gained momentum in the second half of the season after a very slow start to the campaign.
However it must be pointed that Salgaocar SC have nurtured a habit lately for picking the wrong foreign player as this is for the second successive season when they have released a player (Ekene Ikenwa) after having signed him at the beginning of the season.
