The newly appointed technical director, under whom Bagan had won two National Football League (NFL) titles, believes that the squad is strong but some vital adjustments need to be made.
“Our target is to be the champion as the club as big as Mohun Bagan has to fight for it in any case. So definitely we have to go for it,” he told Goal.com.
“However I am yet to assess the conditions of all the players and then let us see. I have just taken over and a lot of our players are injured. I hope they recover soon,” he added.
With the club facing major fitness issues as under the previous regime, the players were given way too much free hand.
“Once we start winning a few games, the fitness will come automatically,” he said.
With the Mariners boasting of an enviable attacking force of Odafa Okolie, Jose Barreto and Sunil Chhetri, the former Prayag United, previously known as Chirag United, technical director stated that coordination among the trio needs to be worked upon.
“Yes, we do have the best strikers but we need to recover. The approach has to be changed, the formation and several other factors,” he pointed.
Their first test will be against Pailan Arrows where Sukhwinder Singh shall be looking to cause an upset on matchday one.
“Pailan Arrows are a very good team. They are a young side which means that their boys can run a lot. They are a very fit side. We shall see what happens.”
