Riding on a fine second half strike by Henry Ezeh, JCT got the better of Chirag United at the Guru Nanak Dev Stadium, Ludhiana in round 22 of the I-League.
Following the goalscoring spree against Viva Kerala in the previous round, JCT had a customary 1-0 victory with Henry winning the Man of the Match award.
This result puts JCT in a rather safe position with 28 points under their belt with another four round of matches to go while Chirag United seem to have slumped recently as they once again failed to add to their points tally.
It was a bright start by the home side as Baljit Sahni's long range effort came off the crossbar as early as in the 4th minute.
But this was just a trailor as the rest of the first session didn't have anything worth notifying except for a reckless tackle from behind by Penn Orji which earned him a place in the referee's book.
After the break, the very first minute saw Penn send the ball over the bar after receiving a back pass from Okoro after some good interplay between the two JCT strikers.
The home side finally managed to break the deadlock from a defensive error by the visitors. Okoro's pass wasn't well cleared by a Chirag defender which allowed Henry enough time to slot it past Sandip Nandy.
Sunil Kumar, playing as a midfielder, had the opportunity to make it 2-0 but his shot missed the target by not much.
Edmilson shrugged off two JCT defenders and was through on goal but missed the target from a one-on-one situation.
Gauranga Dutta continued his horror show of missing goalscoring chances as he couldn't make the most of an Edmilson cross from the left.
The match ended with the same scoreline and Chirag United, the once title contenders this season, are placed fifth on the table.
