The All India Football Federation, in an attempt to find a suitable replacement for the Salt Lake Stadium as a venue for India’s top flight, held an inspection at the Mohun Bagan ground as an alternative.
It was learnt that the AIFF officials were pleased with the turf and other facilities at Bagan, but there were some key aspects in the ground which need to be addressed. One of the major factors that need to be looked into is security, as the crowd gallery is very close to the playing area.
The AIFF has not given a final nod to the venue, as certain mandatory areas like the press box and the visiting team dressing room desperately need a facelift.
But as the Salt Lake stadium seems to be unavailable during the later stages of the league, Mohun Bagan could possibly host a couple of home matches at their very own ground.
