Air India 2-1 Salgaocar
A second half winner from Vijith Shetty was enough for Air India after the first session ended with a 1-1 scoreline with goals from Avneet Shergill and Agnelo Colaco, who scored an own goal.
The win takes Air India to the eleventh spot with eight points to their name while Salgaocar SC are just a point behind the Airmen at 13th place.
After a lacklustre start to the game, the visitors took the lead through Avneet Shergill as his shot from the edge of the box didn’t give much chance to the Air India custodian after receiving a centre from Francis Fernandes.
But it was the home side who had better share of the possession and the goal was against the run of play.
Cooperage continued to be a curse for the Salgaocar defenders as they conceded an own goal for the second time in as many appearances in Mumbai.
While last time around it was Gurpreet Singh, the man guilty this time around was Agnelo Colaco as he sent the ball into his own net after Kalyan Chaubey did well to punch a Ravinder Singh cross just before the half-time break.
Vijith Shetty made his way into the starting line-up after missing out the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Mohun Bagan due to suspension.
He scored the winner in the 79th minute and thereby, won the man of the match award.
Salgaocar needs to buck-up soon if they want to have any hopes of recovering their position in the I-League standings. For Air India, it was a welcome change after the recent string of poor results and it gave Yusuf Ansari his first victory in only his third game in-charge.
