In some really bad news for Indian football, JCT's Baljit Sahni and Sunil Kumar were seriously injured in a bike accident on Tuesday night. Striker Sahni, and defender Kumar were both on a motorcycle near Margao station, when the bike apparently skidded, injuring the two. JCT are in Goa for their 8th round game against Salgaocar on November 14.
Sahni fractured his wrist, and also injured his shin, needing 25 stitches during treatment. Kumar fractured his jaw and required five stitches.
A despondent JCT Coach Parminder Singh spoke after the incident. "Doctors will operate on Sahni's wrist on Thursday morning. I met them and they are recovering slowly", he said.
The coach also mentioned that he had indeed advised them not to go out that night. He added, "I had told them not to go out after dinner, but they went. Then, later, we heard about this accident and rushed to the hospital."
This comes as a huge blow to JCT, as both Sahni and Kumar are first-team regulars. Baljit has been in terrific form this season in the league, scoring six goals in seven games, and had even earned a call-up to the India U-23 team for the SAFF Cup.
Many believed that this would be the breakthrough season for Sahni, but he is now set to miss a sizable chunk of the season ahead, and it's the same with Sunil Kumar.
Also, it's not the first time that a JCT player has been involved in a bike accident, that too, before joining the national team. As recently mentioned in an interview with Goal.com, striker Balwant Singh had also met with a similar accident before joining the national team in Goa.
Goal.com would like to wish both Baljit Sahni and Sunil Kumar a speedy recovery, and hopefully both can come back and make an impact this season.
