I-League: Sukhwinder's Ploy Of Playing Baljit Sahni As Striker Clicked

Sukhwinder Singh has every reason to celebrate and you know why...
JCT had a brilliant start to their season with a 5-1 victory over Shillong Lajong and thereby sending a strong message to those who believe that they are a weakened side.

Sukhwinder Singh’s decision to play Baljit Sahni as a striker paid dividends as the JCT number six responded with a hat-trick. This was after the Punjab side struggled for goals managing a mere 19, which was better only than the relegated sides - Mohammedan Sporting and Vasco SC.

“A good player can play anywhere is what I believe. He has been scoring goals in the practice sessions as well,” said Sukhwinder.

The coach further praised the nature of the goals and reiterated that they came from a good build-up.

“All the goals scored were beautiful. Our team has combined very well. Last year, we started well against Dempo winning in Goa but the goals dried up for us eventually,” said the former Indian national team coach.

The experienced coach also gave his thoughts on Shillong Lajong who were humbled in Ludhiana and would have to ponder what their next strategy would be.

“Yes, there were certain areas where they didn’t play well but I would say we played well in most departments. When a team is down by two goals within the first 25 minutes to the local team, then it becomes difficult,” said Sukhwinder.

JCT next faces Mohun Bagan in Kolkata on the 8th of this month.
