The young defender said, “I am delighted with his (Gerd Muller) compliment as he was such a great player. It is always good to get such praise from great players but I will not get carried away and will work hard as I have a long way to go.”
He also admitted that the Bayern U-23 team was far more superior to his side. “They (Bayern) were good on Saturday but even better today. I and the whole team are disappointed that we lost but we will take confidence from our second half performance.”
He started today’s game in the midfield but didn’t sound too concerned about playing out of position. “Being a professional footballer I have to adapt to any situation, wherever the coach asks me I will play, no problem.”
Nirmal has established himself as a first team regular since arriving at the Kolkata club last year and after three weeks of preparation the teenager seemed confident of a better showing in the second phase of the I-League.
“All the injured players are coming back and everyone is working hard in training so we are confident of doing well in the second phase,” he said.
East Bengal resume I-League action with a tie against Chirag United at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on 24th January.
