Santos Kashyap's men continued their rise up the table with another well deserved three points at home...
The scoring started early after Pailan Arrows defender Pritam Kotal scored an own goal in the 6th minute and Eric Brown doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 30th minute. Midfielder Lalnun Puia added a third in the 67th minute.
Following the draw against United Sikkim, Santosh Kashyap made a few changes in the personnel as Waheed Sali, Lalnun Puia and Joel Sequeira made their way in for Bimal Minz, Robin Gurung and Kailash Patil. Arthur Papas made two changes to his side from the last outing against East Bengal as he brought in Dhanpal Ganeshan and Vishal Kumar for the suspended Narayan Das and the injured Deepak Devrani.
Without a win in their last three league outings, Arthur Papas’ men were desperate for a result to get their season back on track and they got off to the worst possible start when Pritam Kotal put the ball into his own net to hand ONGC the lead just six minutes into the proceedings.
Katsumi Yusa played in a corner and Kotal failed to judge the flight of the ball as it defected of his right foot and into the goal. The game then settled into a pattern as the hosts dominated play and looked the more likely side to score. They deservedly doubled their advantage when Eric Brown found the back of the net on the half hour mark.
Sachin Gawas’ pinpoint cross was met by an unmarked Brown in the box and he buried the ball into the bottom corner with a powerful header.
The visitors failed to create any chances of note as the Oilmen took a well earned two-goal lead into the break.
In the second half the Arrows introduced Shaiju Mon and Tirthankar Sarkar in an attempt to turn the tide, but to no avail. Lalnun Puia wrapped up the three points for the hosts when he smashed in a third goal in the 67th minute.
Joel Sequeira passed to Eric Brown, who played in Puia and the midfielder made no mistake slotting the ball into the net past Shayan Roy in the Arrows goal. ONGC’s afternoon was soured when midfielder Brown got himself a straight red card for a stamp on Arrows defender Kotal with 68 minutes on the clock. However they managed to see off the last 20 minutes or so without much incident.
The result sees Pailan Arrows extend their losing streak in the league to four games and they are 7th with 14 points. On the other hand it’s now 7 points out of 9 for ONGC, as Kashyap’s men continue their march up the table and are 8th with 13 points.
