Desmond Bulpin's side claim their second victims from Kolkata as a brace by Gbeneme Friday and Boithang Haokip's strike overcomes Ranti Martins' double...

Shillong Lajong FC edged past Prayag United SC in Sunday's round four encounter of the I-League, in a match played at Shillong's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Meghalaya.

The home side started with Gbeneme Friday and Sushil Singh in attack, while the visitors had a front pair of Ranti Martins and Mohammed Rafique.

United SC striker Martins silenced the home crowd as the Nigerian nodded the opener for his side in the fifth minute from a Vineeth CK free-kick.

However the home side did have a couple of chances thereafter and scored the equaliser in the 23rd minute when Friday headed a Sushil Singh cross into the box thereby catching Subrata Paul off guard.

Prayag United once again went ahead just before the half hour mark when Ranti Martins scored from the spot after being brought down inside the box by Wailadmi Passah.

The lead once again didn't last long as Friday beat Subrata Paul in a spot-kick which was awarded after L Hmar was fouled inside the Prayag box.

After the break, Prayag United looked more threatening as they enjoyed better possession to make inroads into the opposition defence.

Desmond Bulpin substituted Renedy Singh to bring on Boithang Haokip who eventually scored the winner two minutes after coming on to send the assembled crowd into ecstacy.

Shillong Lajong have thus garnered seven points from four games, while Prayag United SC are on the fifth position, a place above the north-eastern side in the top half of the table.
