Live Commentary

  • What a match, and what a result! Hamburg cruise to a fine win against the champions, and further loosen their grip on the title in the process. Meanwhile, Dortmund's troubles continue: with some of the squad hit with illness and today's team run ragged chasing the game, the portents are not good for their Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk next week... Many thanks for joining me for today's clash - a tremendous advert for Bundesliga football (though perhaps not for defending), I'm sure you'll agree!
  • 90' + 3'
The corner comes to nothing, and that is that for today, and perhaps for the title race in Germany! Hamburg have completed a momentous double over the reigning champions, with two goals apiece for Son and Rudnevs making Lewandowski's opener seem like a distant memory. The Poland striker saw red in the first half while Bruma was dismissed in the second, but in the end, the visitors marched on to a storming win at a snowy Signal-Iduna-Park!
  • 90' + 2'
Dortmund come forward once more with Hummels. Reus takes over and finds Schieber in the box, and the forward wins a corner.

  • 90'
Into stoppage time at Signal-Iduna-Park, on an afternoon where Dortmund may just have surrendered their grip on the Bundesliga crown.
  • 89'
    Assist Marcell Jansen
  • 89'
    Goal Heung-Min Son
GOAL!!! And Dortmund's race is run indeed!! Dortmund looked to have regained possession following a corner, but Jansen muscled his man off the ball before skipping away from Kuba and squaring for Son, who had the easiest of tap-ins at the far post. Two for Son, and four - yes, four - for Hamburg at the home of the champions!
  • 85'
Reus swings in yet another corner, Schieber gets his head to it and Kuba hooks the ball goalwards, but Adler gathers with ease. Dortmund's race looks to have been run here.
  • 83'
A brief stoppage here as Westermann receives treatment after being caught by Gotze. The defender is back in the action now, but moving gingerly.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Mario Götze
  • 81'
Dortmund continue to apply the pressure here, but Adler hasn't been unduly tested this half, and that will concern Jurgen Klopp the most. For all their creativity and energy in midfield, they simply look blunt without Lewandowski as the focal point up top.
  • 79'
Kuba's cross yields another corner, but Gundogan's delivery is a poor one and Hamburg clear towards halfway.
  • 77'
Reus - who's been as lively as anyone in yellow today - wins a free kick on halfway. Gundogan plays it wide to Kuba who fires a stunning cross-field ball to Santana, but his effort on the volley loops over the bar from 20 yards. Difficult for a forward to control a shot like that, let alone a defender!
  • 75'
Gotze drives forward and slips it to Reus, who wins a corner off Westermann. The delivery is aimed at Schieber, but Hamburg survive once more.
  • 74'
SubstitutionPer Ciljan Skjelbred Tolgay Ali Arslan
  • 73'
Good save from Adler! Hummels charges forward into the box to the left of goal and fires across goal left-footed, but the keeper gets down well to parry it away and the covering defenders clear the lines.
  • 71'
Certainly looks to be more goals in this. Dortmund are beginning to commit players forward, leaving plenty of space for HSV on the break...
  • 69'
Great chance for Hamburg! Aogo flights a free kick from the left and it eludes all Dortmund defenders to drop at the feet of Son, who turns inside his man and opts to square the ball, allowing Santana to clear. Should have gone for goal himself there!
  • 67'
Reus picks up the ball from 20 yards out and rifles over the bar. Slightly desperate times for the champions. Piszczek has been replaced by Gundogan, with Klopp getting close to all-guns-blazing now for the final 20 minutes or so...
  • 66'
    SubstitutionLukasz Piszczek Ilkay Gündogan
  • 66'
Dortmund have likewise made their first change, with the somewhat-ineffective Kehl being replaced by attacker Julian Schieber.
  • 65'
    SubstitutionSebastian Kehl Julian Schieber
  • 64'
Well, I promised you twists and turns, and by thunder that's what we've had! Scarcely two minutes after Bruma sees red, and Hamburg have doubled their advantage. Poor defensive work from Dortmund again, though. Van der Vaart - who has been superb throughout today - is withdrawn in place of Slobodan Rajkovic.
  • 63'
SubstitutionRafael van der Vaart Slobodan Rajkovic
  • 62'
    Assist Rafael van der Vaart
  • 62'
    Goal Artjoms Rudņevs
GOOOAAAALLL!! Would you believe it - it's 3-1!! Jansen moves the ball out wide to Van der Vaart, who whips a superb ball left-footed to the far post where Rudnevs powers the header past Weidenfeller!
  • 61'
Sahin's through-ball found its way to Reus, and the defender slid in through the back of him without making clean contact with the ball. He was the last man, so a simple decision in the end. Sahin fires the free kick off target, but Dortmund have been handed a lifeline here!
  • 60'
    Red Card Jeffrey Bruma
  • 59'
RED CARD! Bruma is sent off for Hamburg!!
  • 58'
Reus hits a free kick from 25 yards into the wall and behind - another corner for the hosts. This time, Hummels meets the delivery directly, but he can't steer his effort on target and it's a goal kick.
  • 56'
HUMMELS - over the bar!! The corner was cleared to Sahin, who headed it back towards the box and Reus flicked it on for the defender, but his lobbed effort nestled on to the roof of the net. Another good chance gone to waste!
  • 55'
Reus and Gote combine well to the left of the box and the ball is cleared behind - corner for Dortmund...
  • 53'
GREAT CHANCE FOR 3-1! HSV patiently work the channels until the ball finds itself at the feet of Jansen, and his cross picks out Aogo completely free just inside the area, but he drags his left-footed effort well wide of the far post.
  • 52'
Rincon wins back possession and Hamburg can work it from the back once more. He's been excellent at the heart of midfield today, with Sahin and Kehl kept largely on the fringes of the action.
  • 50'
It's been a pretty quiet opening to the half, though I guess it was always likely to be difficult to sustain the momentum of the first for long! Hamburg comfortable in possession at the moment, with Dortmund seemingly content to wait for their chance on the break.
  • 48'
Kuba wins the ball back and Sahin clips one over the top to Gotze, but neither he nor Reus can get control of the ball and Hamburg eventually win a free kick.
  • 46'
We're underway once more - big 45 minutes for Dortmund coming up...
  • The players are back out on the pitch - second half is imminent...!
  • I don't know about you, but I needed a bit of a breather after that first half! What are your thoughts on the next 45? Can Dortmund get back into game? At what point should Klopp turn his attentions to the Champions League next week? Ten players chasing the game is not ideal preparation for a tie with Shakhtar Donetsk...
  • 45' + 1'
And with that, a frenetic half of football is drawn to a close! Lewandowski put the hosts in front before Rudnevs levelled just moments later, and a wonder-goal from Son put the visitors in front before Lewandowski saw red after clashing with Van der Vaart! A breathless 45 minutes of action, and one which Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich will likely have enjoyed watching...
  • 45'
GOAL - no! Disallowed!! Kuba is played in behind down the right and pulls the ball back to the penalty spot where Kehl awaits. His effort is blocked by Adler under pressure from Reus, and Gotze tucks in the rebound, but the flag is up for offside against Reus!
  • 44'
Gotze swings in a free kick from deep and Westermann clears. Kuba picks the ball up from the resulting throw-in, but Van der Vaart robs in on the edge of the box and Hamburg clear.
  • 42'
Hamburg have a free kick just to the right of the penalty area. Van der Vaart whips it in, and Santana just about scuffs it away from under his feet. Dortmund look as though they need half time now...
  • 39'
Kehl squares to Bender who drives from distance but it's a comfortable save for Adler. At the other end, Van der Vaart drives for goal but Hummels blocks it behind for a corner.
  • 36'
Hamburg are knocking the ball about now just inside their own half, perhaps looking to take the sting out of the game. Gotze wins it back and Kuba drives for the box but Bruma tackles well.
  • 33'
Things are getting heated out on the pitch now, and the crowd has picked up the volume too. A terrific half of football so far!
  • 31'
Yellow Card Rafael van der Vaart
  • 31'
    Red Card Robert Lewandowski
  • 31'
RED CARD! Lewandowski is off! Amazing scenes here as play is stopped for a full minute while the officials debate the decision before the card is issued. Lewa had attempted to reach a bouncing ball and followed through on his man, before a confrontation with Van der Vaart ensued. Lewa is off, Van der Vaart booked, and the home fans are not happy!
  • 28'
Good save from Adler! Gotze pulls the ball back across for Lewandowski, who allows the ball to run across his body before firing low left-footed for goal, but the keeper does enough to smother the ball before Reus can pounce on the rebound.
  • 26'
    Assist Jeffrey Bruma
  • 26'
    Goal Heung-Min Son
GOOOAAALLL!!! WHAT A STRIKE FROM SON!! Mats Hummels was turned on halway by the attacker as he tried to intercept a pass, and from there, it was shere magic, as the HSV man cut inside from the right and rifled a shot in off the far post, with Weidenfeller a spectator!
  • 23'
Wow. Time to take a breather here. Four golden opportunities in as many minutes, with two of them resulting in a bulging net. We've got a real game on our hands here...
  • 22'
    Yellow Card Dennis Aogo
  • 20'
A glorious chance for Hamburg to take the lead there, as Son beats the offside trap and rounds Weidenfeller only to be denied by the near post! Again, the angle was against him, but that was a HUGE chance for the visitors...
  • 18'
    Assist Dennis Aogo
  • 18'
    Goal Artjoms Rudņevs
GOAL!! HAMBURG EQUALISE!! Amazing scenes here, as Aogo hits the byline and squares for the unmarked Rudnevs to tap home! Not a good minute here for defenders, but we are all square at Signal-Iduna-Park.
  • 17'
    Assist Mats Hummels
  • 17'
    Goal Robert Lewandowski
GOAL!! Dortmund take the lead!! A mix-up in the Hamburg defence allows Robert Lewandowski to latch onto a long ball and slde the ball beneath the keeper's legs!
  • 15'
CHANCE - wide!! What an opening for Gotze! The Germany man pulled down a cross from Reus on his chest and powered into the six-yard box with just the keeper to beat, but his clipped effort went just wide of the far post! A tight angle, but by far the best chance so far.
  • 14'
Lewandowski has been in the news this week as rumours linking him to Bayern resurfaced, but he's showing no signs of being bothered by the speculation today. Another lively burst from halfway almost carves out some space for Reus, but Bruma intervenes.
  • 12'
Lewandowski beats the offside trap and latches on to Hummels' driven pass but Bruma is across promptly to snuff out the danger. Hamburg back in possession now on halfway...
  • 10'
A couple more corners from Van der Vaart cause some problems for the hosts' defence. The Dutchman has been a lively presence so far, in what has otherwise been a reasonably pedestrian opening period.
  • 7'
Corner to Hamburg: Van der Vaart swings it in, but Dortmund clear their lines. The hosts move down the other end and Kuba combines with Gotze to win a corner kick of their own, but the delivery yields nothing.
  • 4'
Another half-chance for the visitors as Van der Vaart tees up Rudnevs in the box, but Santana does well to poke the ball away. A lively start from Hamburg thus far.
  • 2'
Van der Vaart draws a foul just past the halfway line, but the flag is raised from the ensuing delivery and Dortmund have a free kick.
  • 1'
And we're off! Hamburg get us underway...
  • So what are your predictions for today? Will the hosts continue their good 2013 form? Can the visitors spring another surprise against the champions? And will we see anything of the "real" Nuri Sahin once more? Let me know your thoughts on Twitter at @JoeWright004...
  • And the visitors line up as follows: Adler; Diekmeier, Bruma, Westermann, Jansen; Skjelbred, Rincon, Aogo; Van der Vaart, Son, Rudnevs. HSV still suffering from the injuries to the likes of Milan Badelj and Ivo Illicevic, but they did win the reverse fixture earlier in the season, so will perhaps feel they can get a result today...
  • Let's begin with our hosts, Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Santana, Hummels, Blaszczykowski; Bender, Kehl, Sahin; Gotze, Lewandowski, Reus. Nuri Sahin makes his first start since rejoining the club last month, which will no doubt have the home faithful in good voice as we approach kick-off!
